If you like a horse with swag, Papa Ralph J is the one for you. He exudes confidence and is convinced he can do just about anything. Ralph spent four years on the track, started 25 times, winning once, and earning $24k. Ralph was a favorite of his track trainer, who owned him his entire racing career and named him after his grandfather. Since retiring sound in November 2021, Ralph has adjusted well to post-track life. He goes out with the herd in the pasture, plays with his mini-me pony all day long, and walks around like he owns the place.
Under saddle, he combines that innate self-confidence with the typical OTTB work ethic, which made for a very easy retraining experience. Not much scares him or makes him nervous, and he will always try to do what you ask of him. He’s broke nicely and patterning well, on track to be entered by the end of the year. He’s popped over some small jumps also and trail ridden all over the farm, mostly alone. He’s been hauled to barrel races for the past year, exhibitioning and hanging out at the trailer. No silly business about buddies or pawing.
He’s barefoot and ties, loads, bathes. He’s good for the farrier, the dentist, the vet. He loves all kinds of attention and will beg for pets, scratches, or a massage. He’s a gangster horse with a secret soft spot.
